Baking and Rebaking of UHP Graphite Electrodes

We provide advanced technological solutions for the baking and rebaking of UHP graphite electrodes and pins, aimed at ensuring controlled carbonization, stable product structure, high mechanical strength, and consistent final product quality.
Baking and rebaking systems provide precise temperature profile control and uniform heat treatment throughout the furnace load, enabling effective binder carbonization, reduced internal stresses, and improved dimensional and structural stability of electrodes and pins.
Compared with traditional furnace concepts, modern automated baking and rebaking systems improve process repeatability, optimize energy consumption, reduce fuel losses, and support advanced control of furnace atmosphere, CO / CO₂ levels, and off-gas treatment.
Advanced furnace concepts, including Low-O₂ operation, controlled combustion of pitch vapours, post-combustion of volatile gases, and waste heat recovery, allow manufacturers to reduce environmental impact, improve industrial safety, lower CAPEX and OPEX, and remain competitive in the rapidly evolving carbon and graphite industry.

Our Approach

Our approach allows for the selection of the optimal baking and rebaking furnace concept depending on the production philosophy, required capacity, product size range, level of automation, energy efficiency targets, safety requirements, and environmental control strategy.
Two main furnace concepts can be applied: Ring Pit Furnaces and Car Bottom Furnaces. Ring Pit Furnaces (RPF) represent a proven solution for large-scale electrode production and are typically suitable for high-capacity plants with stable production programs. This concept provides reliable thermal treatment and efficient use of furnace volume, but usually requires longer heating and cooling cycles, more extensive civil and refractory works, and a higher level of operational handling.
Car Bottom Furnaces (CBF) provide a more flexible and highly controlled approach to baking and rebaking of UHP graphite electrodes and pins. Products are loaded on furnace cars and treated under a controlled temperature profile with advanced furnace atmosphere management. This concept supports improved temperature uniformity, better process repeatability, controlled CO / CO₂ monitoring, off-gas afterburning, and potential waste heat recovery. Compared with traditional ring pit solutions, car bottom furnace systems can offer improved maintainability, higher automation, reduced operational complexity, and stronger environmental and safety performance.
